Easter Services - and the Tridium

Ash Wednesday 18 February 10.00 a.m. St Peter Offham. Ashes are an ancient sign of penitence; from the Middle Ages it became the custom to begin the six weeks of Lent by being marked in ash with the sign of the cross.

Mothering Sunday - mid way through our Lenten observance.

Passiontide begins - The Fifth Sunday of Lent - we prepare for Holy Week.

Palm Sunday  Jesus' entry into Jerusalem.

THE EASTER TRIDIUM  Three days observing the Easter Story.

Maundy Thursday We remind ourselves of Jesus’ new commandment of love (mandatum novum, hence ‘Maundy’).

Good Friday We hear the account of Jesus’s death.

The Easter Vigil Saturday - We 'await' the Resurrection. The Easter Vigil is a drama of light and dark. The Pascal candle is lit from a new fire and everyone’s candles are lit. We hear the ‘Exsultet’ the ancient song of praise. We renew our baptismal vows and share the Eucharist.
