St James is the old parish church of Stanstead Abbots. Dating back at least to the 12th century, the church almost certainly stands on the site of a much older building and has a close historical relationship with the neighbouring Stanstead Bury in the history of the village. 

Sitting in the old box pews and listening to the beautiful choral music provided by East Hertfordshire Church Choirs Association, accompanied by the traditional hand-pump organ, is a very special experience. The church is now only a few times a year and this is an excellent opportunity to enjoy it, while also offering thanks and prayers during the service.
