This week we have said ‘Goodbye’ to one of the older members of our congregation, John Wharton. The choir were in good voice and John Sharples did a beautiful rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ as John Wharton left our church for the final time – very poignant and beautiful – thank you to the choir and John who gave their time so willingly.
The ‘step-free’ access at St James, High Wych is coming along well and may be finished by the end of next week. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused. However, this is a really important task we will have completed to make our church more accessible for those with wheelchairs, buggies and walking sticks – it is looking really good and I doubt we will be able to tell what has been done really – but there will be no more temporary ramps to fall over – thank goodness. It should be easy for everyone to access our church. Watch this space.
As June starts off – hot off the blocks we welcomed 12 people to start ‘The Bible Course’ – which is about as many as can sit in
our sitting room, in one go and be able to see the tv screen. This is a great opportunity to come together and spend some time looking at how the Bible has been put together and where everything fits in the grand story of God. After this we should have a better understanding of how the story fits together and the part we play in this story. They have upgraded this resource, and it is full of videos that will transport you into the times of the Israelites, the Exodus, the prophets, the Kings and the life and times of Jesus, bringing it all to life for us. Really looking forward to Monday evenings.
As we head into the weekend we have:-
8.00 am BCP service at St James, High Wych, followed by
9.30 am for breakfast with a soft start of the Family service at 10.00 am – this service lasts for 45 minutes and is a very family friendly service.
This Sunday we also have the opportunity to go to Derek’s for a BBQ from 2.00 pm – for further details check out the Welcome sheet. If you can’t make this BBQ, fear not, we have another lovely BBQ to look forward to on the 20th June at St Mary’s Church, Gilston (see attached flyer) – we will have lovely food and lots of games for children and families to play, an open bar and a plant sale.
I hope I see you at one of our services or at either of our BBQ’s which both promise to be lots of fun.
Every blessing
Alison
