Music for a Summer's Evening at St Mary's Church Felmersham

'Music for a Summer's Evening'

played and sung by the Cantamus Group

A Miscellany of Madrigals, Part Songs and Folk Songs

As the long light of a summer's evening settles over the parish, you are warmly invited to an hour of song in good company. The Cantamus Group brings together voices and instruments for a varied and unhurried programme — the perfect way to pause at the close of the day and let music do its gentle work.

The evening draws on three rich traditions. From the Renaissance come the madrigals, those intricate, interweaving songs of the English and Italian masters, by turns playful and tender. The part songs carry us into a later age, with the warm harmonies music written for the sheer pleasure of singing together. A gentle time to simply enjoy , enduring melodies that have been passed from voice to voice across the generations.

Whether sung in close harmony or carried by a single line over a quiet accompaniment, each piece has been chosen to suit the season: light, lyrical and full of the easy contentment of a summer's evening. Come and let the music carry you.
