Basil Brown

Sutton Hoo is home to one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of all time - an awe-inspiring Anglo-Saxon royal burial site. The story of Sutton Hoo has inspired the film ‘The Dig’ which tells the tale of a local man, Basil Brown who lived in Rickinghall and whose contribution to the discovery was vital. There is a blue plaque on the wall of the house in which he lived in the village and another plaque in St Mary’s Church, Rickinghall. We have books for sale in the church which tell his story.
