Over the last two weeks in July, our bell-tower captain along with others have been replacing the flooring in the ringing chamber, which had become unsafe. This is why the church has been closed to visitors during this time. The flooring has been replaced with good solid wooden flooring and they have done a really good job. Our thanks go to all those who’ve been involved in this, which has been really hard work.
You may be interested to know that we are going to include a time capsule under the flooring before it is sealed up, for future generations to discover, perhaps next time the flooring needs replacing (hopefully not too soon!). This will include a copy of our parish magazine, a copy of the White Horse news, a copy of the latest bell-ringing magazine, and a copy of last year’s annual report and accounts. Who knows when this will be discovered, but we hope it would be an interesting historical record of church life at this time, for those who find it.
