The Parish of Roch Valley was formed on 30th November 2010 when, as a result of Bury Deanery’s Pastoral re-organisation, the former parishes of St. Peter, St. Thomas, and Holy Trinity, Bury were combined to form a new parish. There have been slight changes to the boundaries and the estimated population of the new Parish is 14,552 (provisional 2011 census figure).
Saint Peter’s is a lively and dynamic church. There are many groups within it and the congregation have always been prepared to try out new ideas. We respond positively to ideas which are well-argued and then open to discussion.
The congregation also respond well to personal invitation to be part of events and their contribution is recognised and valued. Saint Peter’s has been blessed in recent years by Parish Priests who have been inspirational, enabling and supportive and who believe in real collaborative ministry.
Saint Peter’s has been granted OLM status and showing that we work collaboratively was a large part of that process. Two ministry profiles have been drawn up – for pastoral care and for youth work. As yet we have been unable to discern appropriate people for those ministries. However we continue to look and pray. Until recently the church supported a Vocations Group which gave people the opportunity to explore types of ministry and think through their own ideas aided by visiting speakers. It is hoped to restart this group soon.
