Act of Worship The Transfiguration of Our Lord 6th August 2023

Let us worship God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.

‘The Lord is king! Let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad! Light dawns for the righteous, and joy for the upright in heart. Rejoice in the Lord, O you righteous, and give thanks to his holy name!’ (Psalm 97:1, 11-12)

Hymn: Christ, whose glory fills the skies...

Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14; 2 Peter 1:16-19

When Christ appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. As he is pure, all who have grasped this hope make themselves pure. So let us confess our sins that mar his image in us: Most merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us to amend what we are, and direct what we shall be; that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you, our God. Amen.

May the God of love bring us back to himself, forgive us our sins, and assure us of his eternal love in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the day: Father in heaven, whose Son Jesus Christ was wonderfully transfigured before chosen witnesses upon the holy mountain, and spoke of the exodus he would accomplish at Jerusalem: give us strength so to hear his voice and bear our cross

that in the world to come we may see him as he is; who is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Luke 9:28-36

Let us pray:

We pray for St Peter’s Church and for the Church throughout the world, that we will thrive;

We pray for those preparing for Beach Life this year;

We pray for the leaders of the UK and every nation, that peace and justice will reign;

We pray for all that God has created, that the world and it’s creatures will thrive;

We pray for Sheringham, that it’s beating community heart will be strong and healthy;

We pray for those who are sick, suffering or struggling, that their needs will be exceeded;

We pray for the people who have lost loved ones, that they will be comforted.

Let us pray for the coming of God’s kingdom in the prayer that Jesus taught us:

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done;

on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory for ever and ever. Amen.

Hymn: Lord, the light of your love is shining...

May Christ Jesus, the splendour of the Father and the image of his being, draw us to himself that we may live in his light and share his glory; and may the blessing of God Almighty who is Father, Son and Hoy Spirit bless us and remain with us always. Amen.

Let us go in peace to love and serve the Lord, in the name of Christ. Amen.
