Act of Worship The Seventh Sunday of Easter

Easter

We have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens.

We come boldly to the throne of grace.

Acts 1: 6-14

Let us pray:

Most merciful God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, we confess that we have sinned in thought, word and deed. We have not loved you with our whole heart. We have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. In your mercy forgive what we have been, help us to amend what we are, and direct what we shall be; that we may do justly, love mercy, and walk humbly with you, our God. Amen.

May the God of love bring us back to himself, forgive us our sins, and assure us of his eternal love in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer for the day:

Risen, ascended Lord, as we rejoice at your triumph, fill your Church on earth with power and compassion, that all who are estranged by sin may find forgiveness and know your peace, to the glory of God the Father.Amen.

John 17: 1-11

Jesus said “And now I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one.” We cannot be together physically at this time, but we are one, united in the love of Christ.

Let us pray:

We say prayers for the Church, for the world, for our community, families and friends, and for all who are sick, suffering or bereaved.

We remember in our prayers those who have died recently, and all who mourn: Richard Bevis, Marjorie Hadley, Dorothy Wright, Peter Sinclair, Sheila Picken, Brenda Dalgleish, Maureen Boast, and Joyce Scarff. May they rest in peace.

We pray together the prayer that Jesus taught us.

Hymn: Jesus shall reign, where’er the sun does his successive journeys run...

May the Spirit, who set the Church on fire upon the day of Pentecost, bring the world alive with the love of the risen Christ; and may the blessing of God Almighty who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit rest upon us and and be with us always. Amen.

Waiting expectantly for the promised Holy Spirit, let us go in peace to love and serve the Lord, in the name of Christ. Amen.
