Who Is This?
Who is this? Is he speaking to me?
Asking me for water!? It cannot be!
But yes - he’s fascinating, somehow
And looking directly at me now:
His voice is soft, his eyes all-knowing.
What’s happening inside me? I am glowing!
A wilderness life transformed today
By this oasis, Horeb rock, the Way
To a God I didn’t know before -
One that I’ve been longing for
With a desert thirst, but going astray
Searching each and every way.
I’ve left my jar, compelled to tell
Everyone about the man at the well.
Who is this? Who do you think it might be,
The man who knew so much about me?
The Messiah, the promised Holy One,
Here for the outcasts, God’s own Son?
Reconciliation is here at last:
We can start anew, forgive the past,
Receive God’s love into our hearts
With hope and trust, make new starts.
Who is this? Remind ourselves each day
That Jesus shows us the better way:
He asks us for water from the deep well.
How could we refuse? Let’s serve. Let’s tell.
