The bells are tuned to the key of F Major and are rung from the ground floor of the tower. Before the electrification of the clock, the clock weights descended into the ringing chamber inside a large 'chute'. In consequence the ringer of the treble (smallest bell) had to be incredibly thin! the first peal on the ring of six was rung on 3rd April 1893 and the first peal on the ring of eight took place on 8th April 1901.The inscriptions on the bells:1.
