Saturday 5th September - First Saturday of the Month Coffee Morning, Bric a Brac and Book stall at St. John the Baptist, Ditton Priors 10.30am - 12.30pm
Saturday 5th September - Airmen's Annual Memorial Service on the Brown Clee. Please do join us for this very special Service. Viscount Boyne has kindly given us permission for access to the Memorial site so we will meet at Cleobury North Village Hall at 1.15pm for the ascent in 4WD's. Please contact Emma at The Benefice Office if you wish to join us at the Service. If you feel unable to join us on the hill you are most welcome to meet us at Cleobury North Village Hall at approximately 3.00pm when light refreshments will be served.
Saturday 12th September - We have been invited by Clee View Farmers to join them for a bacon roll, tea/coffee at The Three Horseshoes car park from 9.30am - 11.30am. There will be representatives from several organisations, including Revd Joe. Breakfast includes all of the above and cost £5.50. Thank you so much to Clee View Farmers for inviting us and The Three Horseshoes for hosting!
Saturday 12th September - Shropshire Historic Churches Trust Ride & Stride. Further details to follow but a wonderful way to visit churches in our Benefice and throughout Shropshire whilst supporting this wonderful charity who has and continues to financially support many of our parishes for which we are most grateful.
Sunday 13th September - Licensing of Keith Smith as Reader in the Brown Clee Benefice at Cleobury North, 11.30am. We are thrilled to invite you to this very special Service which will be taken by Mark Godson from Hereford Diocese and Revd Joe. Light refreshments will be served in Cleobury North Village Hall following the Service. Please do come along!
Sunday 13th September - A visit from Bishop Richard for a short Service of Prayer at Holy Trinity Church, Wheathill at 3.15pm. Another lovely event as Bishop Richard calls in on his Prayer Pilgrimage around the Diocese. Please do join us!
Monday 14th September - Brown Clee Young Farmers New Members Evening at Ditton Priors Village Hall, starting at 7.30pm. If you or anyone that you know has been thinking of joining Brown Clee YFC then please do pop along to see what it's all about. They are a really lovely welcoming group of young people who do so much good in the local area, whilst having lots of fun. You don't have to be involved in agriculture to join. Saturday 19th September - The Saxons, Vikings and the Making of England. A very local history talk! An illustrated talk by Mr David Guest, local historian and author at Chetton Village Hall - 2pm - 4pm. Tickets will be on sale at Chetton Village Hall on Wednesday 2nd September (between 5pm and 6pm) and Saturday 5th September (between 10am and 11am). Discover the dramatic Mercian story behind the Battle of Tettenhall (910), Lady Æthelflæd and two of Shropshire’s most fascinating historic towns. This illustrated talk explores how the crushing defeat of a Viking raiding army in 910 helped secure Mercia and laid the path for the English reconquest of the Danelaw and a unified English monarchy. It also reveals Æthelflæd’s remarkable leadership as Lady of the Mercians: builder of fortified burhs such as Bridgnorth, strategist, patron (Much Wenlock) and powerbroker. Bridgnorth’s commanding position on the River Severn and Much Wenlock’s religious heritage show how local places were bound into a much larger national story of war, faith, identity and political survival. From Viking raids and battlefield uncertainty to royal patronage and frontier defence, the talk brings the so-called Dark Ages vividly to life and explains why these events matter to the history of the Shropshire, the Midlands and England.
