On the eve of Remembrance Sunday, military historian and author Christopher Jary, will give a talk examining the lives and service of three military chaplains: Geoffrey Studdert-Kennedy MC (aka Woodbine Wille) who set the standard for modern chaplaincy, Theodore Hardy VC DSO MC – one of the most highly decorated non-combatants of the First World War, and Gus Claxton MC, who served with the 2nd Dorsets at the battle of Kohima.

Christopher will explore how influential chaplains have been at the darkest of times and how important their kindness and spiritual support has been to soldiers in combat through the years.

The event is free to attend. Any donations made at the talk will go to the RBL Poppy Appeal.

There will be a bar set up in the church before the talk which will open from 6.30. Those enjoying a drink will be invited to make a donation - which will also go to the Poppy Appeal

St Michael & All Angels, East Coker

St Michael's is a beautiful parish church in the equally beautiful Somerset village of East Coker.  We are a member of the Coker Ridge Benefice.

Our mantra is faith, community, heritage.  We want to live, tell and share the story of Jesus; enrich the fantastic community that is our village; and honour and preserve the heritage entrusted to us.

Amongst other distinctions, St Michael's is the final resting place of the poet T S Eliot.

We are open all day, everyday.  Whether you visit to join a service of worship, to visit the resting place of T S Eliot, or for some moments of quiet reflection or private prayer, you are very welcome.
