St John the Baptist, Tolland will once again mark Good Friday, 18th April, with a
service of three hours of devotion from 12 noon until 3pm led by Maureen and Jill
Canney.
You may have read in a previous issue of the magazine
that our Bishop Michael Beasley is calling for us all to
make 2026 a year with special focus on prayer. He is
hoping that together we can all grow in our experience,
understanding, insight and practice.
He admits praying is not necessarily easy and it doesn’t
just happen. However learning from others does help
and what better way to start than coming along, for as
short or long a time as you wish, to the three hours of
music, meditation and prayer on Good Friday at St John
the Baptist, Tolland.
This year we have a theme of Peace and will be contemplating the Beatitudes from Jesus’s Sermon on the Mount and, given today’s global challenges, uncertainties and inequalities, they are still so relevant. There will also be music from the Taize Community at Cluny, France and from Karl Jenkin’s The Peacemakers.
As previously we will start and finish the three hours with prayer. We will then play a piece of music each quarter hour followed by a beatitude and then silent meditation or prayer of your own,
Do not feel you have to stay for the whole three hours. You can join at any point and stay for as long or short a time as you wish. It’s an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of this important day in the Christian calendar before the wonderful celebration of Easter
