Heritage Open days will, as always, occur on the second weekend of September, this year on Friday 11th and Saturday 12th, with an additional hour after the service on Sunday.

Ongoing will be bellringing, the guided tours, the children’s quiz and the chance to play the organ. The literary treasures of the church will be on show, as will the memorial books from the First World War and material newly unearthed. Exhibitions outlining the history of the church, its people and school are included.

As we celebrate the centenary of the diocese, on Friday at 11.00 am, a talk by Bill Walker is entitled, “ How Did We End Up In Blackburn?” On Saturday, again at 11.00 am, David Horsfield will address the Heritage Open Day’s national theme by presenting “The Everyday History of St George’s since 1949”. This is not as long as it may sound and includes not a few humourous anecdotes.

Gordon Blackledge is scheduled for a special organ recital at 12.30 on Saturday. This day will end at 3pm, in preparation for the much anticipated Assembly Bangers event at 4pm.

Please come along and bring a neighbour or a friend. Our mayor, Councillor Debra Platt, is visiting from 2pm Friday afternoon and it would be great to have a goodly number of parishioners to receive her and pass on their thoughts of St George’s.
