Christmas Wishes: Rather than writing Christmas cards to everyone in church you may wish to consider sending Christmas wishes via the notice sheet on 17th December. Please liaise with the Vicar if you wish your message to be included in this way. Broadway Hall Closure: Starting this Friday, 1st December the parquet flooring in the big hall is going to be sanded and repolished. It will take until close of business on Tuesday to be completed and therefore all hall users are being relocated to the Jubilee Room or have been cancelled until Wednesday 6th December. There will be no access to the hall during this period. Christ the King: The purpose of this festival today helps to deepen the awareness of the final end of all things in the triumph of Christ. It brings the cycle of the liturgical year to an end, but looks forward to its turning again on Advent Sunday. The spirituality of this festival must never be forgotten or understated. No one recognised this more than Henri Nouwen in his Sabbatical Journey: "on the last Sunday of the liturgical year, Christ is presented to us as the mocked King on the Cross as well of the King of the universe. The greatest humiliation and the greatest victory are both shown to us in today's liturgy. It is important to look at this humiliated and victorious Christ before we start the new liturgical year with the celebration of Advent. All through the year we have to stay close to the humiliation as well as to the victory of Christ, because we are called to live both in our own daily lives." Please remember in your prayers: Louise Clark, David Newton, Rev Martin Keighley, Mark Price, Rebekah, Lee Schofield, Craig Abson, Dorothy Cox and Maurice Roberts. Please also remember the families of Elizabeth King and Peter Dell whose funerals are due to take place on the 6th December and 8th of December respectively.

Please liaise with the Vicar if you wish your message to be included in this way. Lord Jesus, Master of both the light and the darkness, send your Holy Spirit upon our preparations for Christmas. We who have so much to do, seek quiet spaces to hear your voice each day, We who are anxious over many things look forward to your coming among us. We who are blessed in so many ways long for the complete joy of your kingdom. We whose hearts are heavy seek the joy of your presence. We are your people, walking in darkness, yet seeking the light. The Vicar is taking the service at the Cenotaph. Perhaps the most quoted poem on war, In Flanders Fields, was first published in December 1915 after it was penned by Canadian physician Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae during the First World War. After appearing in London’s Punch magazine, it soon become a popular reflection on the sacrifice of war. McCrae's focus was on the peace that follows death, from the perspective of fallen soldiers lying in their graves. In Flanders fields the poppies blow between the crosses, row on row, that mark our place; and in the sky the larks, still bravely singing, fly scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago, we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, loved, and were loved, and now we lie in Flanders fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: to you from failing hands we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us who die we shall not sleep, though poppies grow in Flanders fields. Singing for pleasure: It’s a well-known fact that singing is good for the soul and good for our general well-being. So, how would you like to have an hour a week learning new worship songs and singing your favourite hymns? The sessions will take place in the comfort of the Jubilee Room. At the back of church, you’ll find an invitation. Fill it in and pop it in the box provided. We’ll try to pick a day and time that suits the majority. 100 Club winners: Lawrence Dunne, Stephen Ward, David Meekins, Maureen Siddall, Gerald Mathias, Freda Wayman, Moira Greenwood, Muriel Freestone, Sandra Fowler, Claire Naylor, Margaret Pook, Dorothy Angel. June Young, Dorothy Warren, Raymond Hollebone, Ruth Aspinall, Lindsay Newton, Carol Newton and Christopher Jones. Congratulations and thank you for supporting the Church through the 100 Club. Please remember in your prayers: Louise Clark, David Newton, Peter Dell, Rev Martin Keighley, Elizabeth King, Mark Price, Rebekah, Lee Schofield and Craig Abson. And the families of Derek Scrivener, June Manton and Derek Fenton whose funerals are due to take place.
