Annual Parochial Church Meeting – The APCM, otherwise know as the AGM will be held in church on Tuesday 30th May at 7.00 pm. This meeting gives us an opportunity to celebrate together the life of the parish. It will include worship, prayers, business and refreshments and everyone is welcome. If you are interested, even passionate about the future of St Nic’s, please try to make it a priority in your diary. Christian Aid Week 14-20 May - Soaring costs are affecting people here and around the world. Families in Malawi are paying the price of this global crisis. Food, fuel, fertiliser and school fees have doubled in price in the last 12 months. And hard-working farmers are seeing their harvests fail as they experience the ever-increasing erratic weather. By donating to Christian Aid, we will be helping to improve the lives of folk whose lot is much tougher than ours. If you feel able to help, there are envelopes at the back of church, the contents of which we will process and forward to Christian Aid. Alternatively, you may make a donation on-line through the Christian Aid website. Thy Kingdom Come 18th – 28th May, Ascension to Pentecost – This ecumenical prayer initiative that invites Christians around the world to pray for more people to come to know Jesus, is now in its 8th year. Every person, household and church are encouraged to pray during the 11 days in their own way. Specifically, we are personally invited to pray that God’s Spirit might work in the lives of 5 people who have not responded with their ‘Yes’ to God’s call. For those who have a smartphone you can download the Thy Kingdom Come app which will provide helpful resources. There will be a service of Holy Communion to mark the Ascension of our Lord at 10.45 am on Thursday. It was a time to reflect on our history and to celebrate something of who we are and to look forward. The coronation was steeped in this country’s traditions and filled with great symbolism. It was essentially a consecration to service. It happened within a Eucharist, the most basic and central act of our Christian worship, it included oaths, regalia and crowing. Through the Eucharist we receive from Jesus the one who comes to us as a servant; the one who is the king of Kings. King Charles and Queen Camilla will be remembered in our gatherings today and in our prayers. Do join us for a celebratory drink after the 10.45 service if you are able. Lord, enthroned in heavenly splendour: look with favour upon thy servant Charles our King, and bestow upon him such gifts of wisdom and love that we and all thy people may live in peace and prosperity and in loving service one to another, to thine eternal glory; who with the Father and the Holy Spirit reigns supreme over all things, one God, now and for ever. The Parochial Church Council (PCC): A new PCC will be formed at the APCM at the end of May and we are keen to encourage some new members. We meet six times a year, so it’s not onerous, but just requires you to be passionate about the future of St Nic’s. Please approach the Vicar if you feel you could serve the parish in this way. Electoral Roll: If you have been attending St Nic’s for at least the last six months and you are baptised and over the age of 16 then you are eligible to have your name entered on the electoral roll of the church.
