Dear Friends,
As I said last week this is a season for festivals! This week we are celebrating the Trinity, thinking together about the strange way in which our God is three and yet one. Father, son and Holy Spirit – one God and yet three persons. I am delighted that we will be joined by our Area Dean, Rev’d Sarah Hancox, who will be taking both our services whilst I am away. Sarah is the vicar of St. Luke's in Brislington and I know that her inclusive energy will find a warm welcome at St Martin’s – I look forward to hearing about what she shares when I get back!
One aspect of the Trinity is that God is a God of community, sharing and giving even within the Trinity. We read in the gospels of how Jesus was supported and energised by both the Spirit and his heavenly father. As I write this I am struck by the number of ways we offer that support and energy to one another but also how we need to continue to learn to seek God together to find those things in amongst the things of life. At Café Reconnect last week one of our new regulars brought his small trumpet and gave us all a rendition. It was a practical example of how we can bring the gifts, skills and interests of our own into this place to share them with one another. I am so touched to see people supporting one another constantly through grief, illness and hard times. It is really important that we notice one another and look out for each other. As such, if you ever feel you need some support or could offer some support, do get in touch with myself or our pastoral care coordinator and we can meet with you to explore options going forward.
Many of you will know that we are continuing to move forward with filling the vacancy of Priest-in-charge, let’s be praying as we sit in this time of waiting together.
I always love to hear from you about all things relating to faith and life so do drop me an email or find me at the end of service to catch up or even to share your perspective on the Trinity and the things Sarah shared.
All the best,
Phil
