A quiet service of Night Prayer to finish the day. The Church of England describes Compline in this way:
"The ancient office of Compline derives its name from a Latin word meaning ‘completion’ (completorium). It is above all a service of quietness and reflection before rest at the end of the day. It is most effective when the ending is indeed an ending, without additions, conversation or noise. If there is an address, or business to be done, it should come first. If the service is in church, those present depart in silence; if at home, they go quietly to bed."
This service is currently available online only using Zoom.
Several times each year we meet together for lunch in the church. We open the doors at 12noon where sherry or fruit juice is served while people catch up with friends or make new ones. We then serve a three course lunch, soup, main and dessert followed by tea or coffee.
We follow lunch with a short prayer service, which people find uplifting and helpful. We sing a hymn together, read the Bible and pray for our friends and family. You would be most welcome to join us. Please book a place so we know how many to cater for. Lifts are available. Check Church Calendar for details.
Our usual service pattern has changed because of the Covid-19 restriction. It may be a service of Holy Communion or of All-Age Worship and details for each week are published on our church website's "This Sunday" page at https://www.stmaryschartham.org/Groups/355990/This_Sunday.aspx
Although services are currently mainly online at present, we hope to very soon be able to begin to have our congregation back in the church building. Full details, including how to connect online, on our website: https://www.stmaryschartham.org/Groups/355990/This_Sunday.aspx
