Daily Scripture:Though I am poor and needy, the Lord cares for me. You are my helper and my deliverer; O my God, make no delay. (Psalm 40:18-19)Daily Reflection:I guess not many of us would put ourselves in the category of being poor and of being needy. If we consider the psalmist’s words from a purely material point of view, the vast majority of us would be right. However, if we consider these words from a spiritual point of view……. we are all poor, we are all needy; and yet, the Lord cares about you. He is your helper and deliverer. He is waiting - patiently - for the day when you will recognise Him for who He is. The verse before these the psalmist says, “Let all who seek you rejoice in you and be glad; let those who love your salvation say always, ‘The Lord is great.’”May we recognise that there is something bigger than us. That there is God. May we then confess that we are poor and needy, and know that God cares; He is my helper. Revd David

Jesus was not always silent in the face of opposition, nor did he duck from his accusers. But he set an historic example of how we should not ‘give as good as we get’, and how not to allow ourselves to fall to the temptation to hit back. “Two wrongs don’t make a right”. David Harmsworth
Daily ScriptureSo Jesus asked the twelve, ‘Do you also wish to go away?’ Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom can we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and know that you are the Holy One of God.’ (John 6:67-69)Daily ReflectionThings are evidently getting tough for those following Jesus; many are finding it too tough and decide to leave, to go back to an easier way of life. Jesus asks the disciples if they want to leave too.There are two things going on in these short verses, which apply to us too. Firstly, we can either accept or reject Jesus for who he is, as he asks us the same question. Secondly, in Peter’s response, he speaks honest words for all of us: “To whom can we go?” There is no other way!…..You have the words of eternal life. When I meet with baptism or wedding couples, I often put to them the simple question: “Do you believe that there is God?” Either God exists or he doesn’t. Either Jesus exists or he doesn’t.
