St John the Baptist
St John's Melmerby is part of the East of Eden Mission Community.
Melmerby Church is situated on the edge of the village in close proximity to Melmerby Hall. There is a path running from the church to the hall which has been used for centuries to link the two buildings The precise origins of the church have been lost in time but the present church dates from the 13 century. There are the remains of an old cross in the church yard that may go back even further.
