Maundy Thursday Meal and Communion

All are warmly invited to gather for our Benefice Maundy Thursday Meal and Communion at St Mary’s at 6.30pm.

On this night, the meal and the service are one single act of worship. We will begin by sharing a simple meal together — lasagne (meat and vegetarian), salad, pittas, and wine (with non-alcoholic options available). As we eat, we will listen to scripture and sing together. Our evening will then continue naturally into Holy Communion, before we end with the stripping of the altars, remembering the night before Jesus’ crucifixion.

Because of the nature of Maundy Thursday, the meal is not separate from the service — it is part of the service itself. We therefore encourage everyone who comes to arrive for the beginning and share in the whole evening together.

To help us plan, a sign-up sheet is available at the back of church, though you are very welcome to come along on the night even if you haven’t signed up.

If you are able to cook or bring something to contribute, that would be wonderful. We would particularly welcome:
Lasagne (meat or vegetarian)
Salads
Pittas
Bottles of wine
All contributions will be joyfully received.

We want this to be a meal where everyone can take part, so if you have dietary needs or concerns about food, please do let us know and we will make sure there is something suitable for you: [email protected]

All are very welcome to share in this special evening together.

St Mary

The parish of Windermere (Applethwaite): St Mary is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Carlisle’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the DSA. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.
