Welcome to a new term and an exciting new chapter with the launch of Children's Church at Chester Cathedral! We hope everyone has had a wonderful restful summer. We are very much looking forward to welcoming everyone back.
We are excited to announce we have a new format for Sunday morning children's groups beginning on 7 September. Families will continue to gather at the front of the nave for the start of the 10.30am service and go out to their groups after the first hymn and a prayer.
Mini Pilgrims for babies, toddlers and young children will meet in the Education Room and will be using materials called 'Sowing Seeds' by Sharon Moughtin-Mumby. We were delighted to welcome Sharon to Chester back in June for a training session and to hear more about how the worship and storytelling resources she has created embrace movement, music and repetition as well as being rooted in a contemporary understanding of children's spirituality.
Young Pilgrims for school-age children will meet in the Cloister Room and will be learning about our journeys of faith. The Young Pilgrims will be take part in seasonal prayers and then split into Werburgh Pilgrims and Anselm Pilgrims to enable them to join in with more age-appropriate activities.
We're really looking forward to introducing the children to the new resources and format. Later in the term, we will be celebrating Harvest all together and hope to hold an activity day too. There are also plans to gather the older young people (Y9+) on occasional Wednesday evenings during the term.
Keep an eye out for more details as we updated our website and continue to develop our new Children's Church. If you would like to get involved in helping with Children's Church, do speak to Jackie Rainsforth or email [email protected].
As always, safeguarding remains an absolutely non-negotiable priority with all our children's work. You can find our policies and more information on the website Safeguarding at Chester Cathedral - Chester Cathedral. If you have any safeguarding concerns, please contact the Cathedral Safeguarding Officer, Sharon Scarlett at [email protected] or 01244 500 953.
