Creed: a formal statement of beliefs.

But who writes them? And how do we put into words what we believe in?

In the year that we mark 1700 years since the Council of Nicaea – one of the most influential and widespread declarations of Christian faith in 325AD - explore the treasures in the collections of Chester Cathedral and friends in this engaging exhibition to discover how ‘creeds’ have been expressed through the centuries.

On display in the Cathedral Library and North Quire Aisle between 1 May – 19 September.

Visitor access to the Exhibition Library is available on some Tuesdays during the exhibition run - check the website before planning a visit. We aim to publish Library opening times with two weeks' notice.

The Creation Window: A Quite Extraordinary Treasure

Occurring
for 1 hour, 30 mins
Venue
Chester Cathedral
Address
St Werburgh Street Chester, CH1 2DY, United Kingdom

The Friends of Chester Cathedral invite you to an evening with sandwiches and cake in Café 1092 in the Refectory with a presentation from Trevor Dennis about the Creation Window.

Did you know the Creation Window in the Refectory, which was designed by artist Rosalind Grimshaw, was inspired by the first book of the Bible (Genesis 1)? Trevor is an Old Testament scholar with a passion for Genesis 1 and equally passionate about the Creation Window (one of Trevor's favourite treasures of the Cathedral). When the window was commissioned and installed, Trevor was Vice Dean and remembers his interactions with Rosalind Grimshaw. He recalls being amazed that Grimshaw's Parkinson's disease was a barrier for her creativity, yet the artist was still able to not only draw her design but cut the glass required to bring it to life.

Enjoy tea and cake while learning all about this incredible and inspiring window from someone who was around for its creation.
