Funding approved for repairs to St Andrews Church in Grange, Runcorn

People on the Grange Estate in Runcorn are set to get a new roof and replacement windows thanks to grants of £100,000 and £75,000 from FCC Communities Foundation and from the Veolia Environmental Trust.

The money will be used to replace leaky flat roofs and high level windows at St Andrews Church on Grangeway in Runcorn.

The Reverend Emma Speake of St Andrews Church believes the facility will make a huge difference to the lives of people living in the area.

She says: “This project will provide a real boost to the people of Grange. It’s fantastic that FCC Communities Foundation has awarded us this money and we’re really looking forward to our building improvements taking shape over the next six months.

FCC Communities Foundation and Veolia Environmental Trust are not-for-profit businesses that awards grants for community projects through the Landfill Communities Fund.

Cheryl Raynor, FCC Community Foundations local grant manager says: “We are delighted to be supporting the PCC to bring this project to fruition. The applicants demonstrated how the facility underpins daily life in the area and, when once again warm and dry they can go from strength to strength.

The Reverend Emma Speake hopes the improved church building will be ready to use by August 2022

The church building, at the heart of the Grange estate, is used by a wide range of groups but has suffered in recent years from water damage caused by its leaking roof and windows. This project, generously supported by FCC Communities Foundation and Veolia Environmental Trust, will ensure a fit for purpose building for the future benefit of the local community.

Any individuals or organisations wanting to know more about the use of the building or who would like to support St Andrew’s ongoing building improvements are asked to contact The Reverend Emma Speake at the Vicarage on Lime Grove, Grange, Runcorn.

The Landfill Communities Fund and Scottish Landfill Communities Fund - any waste that is discarded which cannot be reused, reprocessed or recycled may ultimately be disposed of in a landfill site. To encourage the re-use, recycle and recovery of more value from waste and use more environmentally friendly methods of waste disposal, Landfill Tax is charged on each tonne of waste sent to landfill. Landfill Operators (LOs) are able to redirect a small proportion of landfill tax liability to support a wide range of community and environmental projects in the vicinity of landfill sites through the Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) and Scottish Landfill Communities Fund (SLCF). The LCF is regulated by ENTRUST on behalf of HM Revenue & Customs, and the projects are delivered by enrolled Environmental bodies (EBs). The SLCF is regulated by SEPA on behalf of Revenue Scotland and projects are delivered by Approved Bodies (ABs)
