Remembrance Sunday is an important day in the life of our nation and this is no less the case in the village of Helsby. The First World War memorial, funded by the parishioners, was unveiled in Helsby in 1920 with 20 names and a further 17 were added after the end of the Second World War. In 2005-6 the war memorial was conserved with the help from the War Memorials Trust and in 2015 was refurbished by the local authority. This local history and the fact that the churchyard where the memorial stands is maintained by Cheshire West and Chester Council, indicate this is a very public space. This year the Act of Remembrance in the Churchyard will be led by Rev Canon Gary O'Neill, a retired priest at St Paul's Church. The event starts in the Churchyard at 10.45am in order to be ready for the Two Minute Silence at 11.00am.The Churchwardens of St Paul’s Helsby would also like to offer a sincere and warm invitation to the short service in St Paul’s Church that immediately follows the Act of Remembrance. Joining in the service in church is not a requirement but you would be very welcome, and to refreshments afterwards in the hall.
