To mark the beginning of the season of Lent, we gather for this special service of Holy Communion on Ash Wednesday to commit ourselves to observing a Holy Lent in preparation for Easter. As a symbol of our commitment to repentance, prayer and service of others, we are marked with the sign of the Cross in ashes during this service.
