Over half-term week at the end of October, significant works took place in the Octagon Hall. Funded by generous grants from external organisations and the residents of Willingham, who have supported our fund raising events, the Octagon Hall kitchen has been refurbished to modern standards, including now a dishwasher and a modern oven. At the same time, the heating in the hall has been sorted, so it now works properly and the building is warm. We very much hope that this will encourage local groups to want to make bookings to use the hall. The work was done with the aim of offering this as a community space. The Community Hub meets weekly on a Monday morning in the hall and the Memory Box Cafe monthly on a Saturday morning but there's still plenty of room for more users, either regularly or as a one-off. If you are interested in booking to use the hall, please contact our Parish Administrator on admin@5folds.org.uk or 01954 203459 for further information.
Over 100 people gathered at the War Memorial on Sunday, 9 November for the annual Act of Remembrance, this year led by the new Team Vicar, Fr Ed Green. Mrs Sue Hayden read the role of honour and wreaths were laid by the Royal British Legion, the Parish Council, representatives from local churches and uniformed organisations and pupils from Willingham Primary School. After the outdoor service, people moved to inside the church for a further act of worship, including a commitment to work for peace. Remembrance Sunday is always a special occasion in the church's year and it was most encouraging that so many turned out to take part. Thank you to all who participated.
On Saturday, 4 October 2025, all the Licensed Lay Ministers in the Diocese of Ely went to the cathedral to be re-licensed (something that happens every three years). Amongst them was the LLM from 5folds, Canon Jan Payne. In addition, the Acting Bishop of Ely, Bishop Dagmar (pictured here with Jan and Team Rector, Revd Stephen Dover) presented Jan and several others with long service awards. Jan has served for 25 years as an LLM in the Diocese, the last six years of which have been in 5folds. A full gallery of images can be viewed on YouTube - see link
