Vision Process 2025

Why have a Vision Process?

As a church, we want to listen to God about who we are now and who God is leading us to be in the coming years. We have therefore started a Vision Process.

What are we doing?

From September to December 2025, we are in a listening phase. Listening to God, one another, and our community. We are choosing to do this through prayer and conversations, and we hope that as many people as possible will want to be part of this across our congregations, communities, and beyond, so that together we can hear the voice of the Holy Spirit.

Can you be more specific?

We have focused this around three questions/areas:

1. Where are things now for St Philip & St James Church, Hucclecote?

2. Who and what is God calling us to be and do?

3. What big or personal questions are people wrestling with?

These are fleshed out with suplementary questions in the documents attached below.

Is this only for people who go to church?

Absolutely not! Please feel free to contribute to any or all of our questions, whether you regularly come to church or not, whether you live in Hucclecote or not, and whatever stage of life you’re in.

How can I be part of this?

Please don’t feel like you have to have the perfect answer right away. We have a display board in church where you can get feedback forms for anyone to contribute to and return later. Alternatively, you could write your thoughts down and post them through the letterbox at the church office, making clear that they relate to the Vision Process. You don’t have to give your name, though you can if you’d like to.

If neither of these work for you, you could send us a message through the Get in touch tab on this webpage with 'Vision Process 2025' in the subject.

We will also be facilitating a number of conversations with different groups and you’re welcome to be part of as many of those as you like.

How long will this last?

This phase will probably last until the end of 2025, after which there will be a time of pulling things together and discussing what we think we’ve heard. Our hope is that by the middle of 2026 we will have a clear vision which helps us discern between the many good things that we could be doing and focus our energies on who God wants us to be and what God has for us to do in the coming years, fulfilling our calling as disciples of Jesus.

Vision Prayer

Core group (our group for secondary-age young adults) have written the following prayer for use during our Vision Process. Please feel free to use it during private and group prayer.

Dear God,

Thank You for walking with us through hard times and for giving us a space where we can be ourselves – where we can share our thoughts, our faith, and worship You without fear or judgment.

As we move forward, help us to listen - really listen – to You and to each other. Give us open hearts and minds. Help us to make wise choices that bring us closer to You. Shape a church that feels like home and speaks to everyone, especially younger generations. Help us build something welcoming and real. Let it be a place full of love, honesty, and purpose.

Amen.
