It is believed that the damage to the Tenor Bell was caused when the clock bell striker arm became disconnected and fell between the spokes of the wooden bell pulley whilst the tenor bell was being rung. The metal striker arm was snapped into two pieces and the heavy hammer head struck the spokes of the wheel, causing significant damage to the rotating wheel. A replacement bell wheel was manufactured by Taylor's last year.
The striker arm and disconnect mechanism are also to be repaired but this repair has been delayed due to illness. It is expected that the church clock will be chiming again soon.
