Funerals and memorials
The loss of a family member or friend is a very sad and difficult time in anyone's life, and it often helps to find support from the church.
Funerals can be in a church or at a crematorium.
Funerals at All Saints' church Gilmorton are generally followed by burial in the churchyard or by cremation with subsequent burial of ashes in the Garden of Remembrance or interred in the grave of one of their family members.
Your funeral director will contact one of the team at All Saints to arrange the funeral for you. You will be contacted by a minister who will discuss the service which will be for you to say goodbye to your loved one in the most meaningful way possible.
Please be aware that there are qualifying criteria as to who is eligible to be buried in the churchyard. The Burial Act of 1853 sets out that these are i) those resident in the parish at the date of their death; ii) those whose names are on the church electoral roll; iii) those dying whilst in the parish. Where parishes have an incumbent it is also possible for them to allow anyone else to be buried in the churchyard. However, we currently don't have a resident parish priest, so this is not an option for Gilmorton church. The same rules apply to cremated remains.
Care for the Family is an organisation of people who give support in many areas, especially bereavement.
