The Triduum: Maundy Thursday

Occuring
for 1 hour, 30 mins
Venue
St John the Evangelist, Corby Glen
Address
Church Street Corby Glen Grantham NG33 4NJ, NG33 4NJ, United Kingdom

Maundy Thursday marks the beginning of the Triduum – the great three-day service which recalls the Last Supper, the Agony of Our Lord in the Garden of Gethsemane, his Trial before Pilate and his Crucifixion. The Triduum ends with the Easter Vigil and our celebration of Christ’s triumphant resurrection.

On Maundy Thursday we remember Christ’s call to service when the priest washes the feet of those present, as Christ washed the feet of his disciples. We remember the giving of the new commandment to love one another as Christ has loved us, and the institution of Holy Communion. At the end of the service the altar is stripped and all adornments are removed from the sanctuary.

There will be no blessing or dismissal because the service does not end until the Easter Vigil on Holy Saturday. After the post-communion prayer you may like to spend some time in silent prayer – recalling the time Jesus spent in prayer in the Garden of Gethsemane.

The Triduum: Good Friday Liturgy

In the second part of the Triduum, the Good Friday Liturgy, through readings from Scripture we remember and reflect on the suffering of Christ on the cross, pray the Solemn Prayers of Intercession, and receive Communion. Silence is an integral part of this service.

The Triduum concludes on with the Easter Vigil on Saturday evening.

The Triduum: Easter Vigil

Occuring
for 1 hour, 30 mins
Venue
St John the Evangelist, Corby Glen
Address
Church Street Corby Glen Grantham NG33 4NJ, NG33 4NJ, United Kingdom

The Easter Vigil is made up of four main elements.

1. The Service of Light
The resurrection of Christ is proclaimed.
The Easter Candle, symbolizing Christ, the light of the world,
is lit and passed through the Church and to the congregation.
The Exsultet, an ancient Easter song of praise, is sung.

2. The Vigil
At the heart of this is the reading of key passages from Scripture telling of God’s saving love.

3. The Liturgy of Baptism
Members of the congregation re-affirm their Baptismal Vows as a public declaration of their union with Christ in his death and resurrection.

4. The Eucharist
The celebration of the Eucharist is the proper climax of the Easter Vigil. It is the moment when we are reunited with our risen Lord after the harrowing events of Good Friday and the emptiness of Holy Saturday.
