Each year we are graced at St Andrew’s Church with a lecture from our very own local historian, Jean Howard. This year is no exception — and Jean brings us a subject rooted deeply in our own county’s soil.

Her talk, Tennyson’s Lincolnshire Family, explores the remarkable cast of characters who shaped the poet’s early life. She will look briefly at his parents, grandparents and siblings, including his favourite brother Charles, who spent his life as vicar of Grasby, and his hated Uncle Charles, the eccentric creator of the astonishing Bayons Manor at Tealby.

It’s a story threaded with eccentricity, addiction, family tensions and brilliance — more than enough to keep every listener absorbed.
