About Us
St Mary's Knowsley is twinned with St George's Huyton as part of the newly formed parish of 'Earlsfield St Mary with St George'. The Church is also sometimes known as Knowsley Parish Church.
Background. The Parish of Earlsfield St Mary with St George was created in January 2023, bringing together the 19th century grade 2 listed church of St Mary Knowsley Village, with St George’s Huyton, built in the 1950's.
St Mary’s, led by Rev Hugh Lea-Wilson and St George’s, previously led by Rev Jayne Van den Berg-Owens worked closely together as part of the 4Saints Team, with St Luke’s West Derby and St Jude’s Stockbridge. This helped significantly as the two churches joined together into a single parish, and good inter-church relations further helped the leader-ship transition for St George’s after Rev Jayne sadly died in August 2022. Rev Hugh Lea-Wilson, currently Team Rector, will became Rector of the Parish of Earlsfield next year.
Vision and Aims. Over the last two years, the new PCC progressed the single parish, developing the vision in line with both churches, recognising their differences and embracing the different communities that they serve.
We developed a new parish logo, unifying us in faith, hope and love: deepening faith as we gather to worship and seek to know God better - and raising hope as we see God’s faithfulness and how he is doing great things in our communities and churches.
Websites. Detailed information about St Mary's Church, Knowsley and all our policies etc were on a previous Website www.knowsleychurch.co.uk but this has been withdrawn by BT without explanation. So this is currently our main website whilst we look at developing another.
