Evensong and Benediction

Evensong and Benediction offer a peaceful and contemplative close to the day, drawing us into the beauty of evening prayer and adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

Evensong is the Church’s traditional service of evening worship, sung in the rich language of Scripture and prayer. Rooted in the Psalms and the ancient canticles of Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, it includes readings that open the treasures of Scripture and the writings of the saints, helping us to reflect more deeply on the mystery of faith. The music and words together lift our hearts in thanksgiving and trust, reminding us of God’s abiding presence.

Following Evensong, we enter into Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament — a time of stillness and awe before Christ present in the Eucharist. The Blessed Sacrament is placed upon the altar, and we adore the Lord in silence and song, receiving his blessing in the sign of the Cross.

Evensong and Benediction together unite the beauty of Anglican worship with the deep devotion of Catholic tradition: word and sacrament, praise and presence, rest and renewal in the love of Christ.

All Souls’ Requiem Mass

Our All Souls’ Requiem Mass is a solemn and prayerful commemoration of all the faithful departed, especially those whose funerals have taken place in our parish during the past year.

At this Mass we remember, by name, those who have died, and we also pray for the blessed dead whom parishioners and friends wish to have included in our intercessions. The names are read aloud, and candles may be lit in their memory as a sign of love, hope, and the unbroken bond of faith which joins the living and the departed in Christ.

In the beauty of the Requiem Mass we entrust our loved ones to the mercy of God, who promises life beyond death and light beyond darkness. Together we commend them to his keeping, confident that those who sleep in Christ shall rise with him in glory.

Morning Prayer Online

Each morning we come together online to begin the day in prayer, listening to God’s Word and offering our praise and intercession as one parish family.

Morning Prayer follows the Church’s ancient rhythm of daily worship, combining psalms, Scripture readings, and prayers that sanctify the beginning of the day. In this quiet and prayerful time, we give thanks for the gift of life, seek God’s guidance for the hours ahead, and hold before him the needs of the world.

Gathering online allows us to remain united in prayer, wherever we may be. It is a moment of calm before the busyness of the day — a gentle reminder that all we do and all we are begins and ends in God.

The Family Mass

The Family Mass is a joyful and welcoming celebration of the Holy Eucharist, bringing together people of all ages to worship as one family in Christ. It is a sung Mass, rich in participation and prayer, though without hymns — allowing the beauty of the liturgy itself to lead us in praise.

Here, children and adults alike share in the rhythm of the Church’s worship, hearing God’s Word, offering prayers, and coming together around the altar to receive the Body and Blood of Christ. The familiar responses and simple chants help everyone to take part, creating a sense of unity and belonging.

The celebrant leads us in prayer and thanksgiving, proclaiming the Scriptures and consecrating the bread and wine so that we may be fed with Christ’s life. Every element of the Family Mass — the readings, the music, the stillness — draws us closer to God and to one another.

This Mass invites families to grow in faith together, learning the beauty of worship and discovering the quiet joy of meeting Christ in the Eucharist.

The Low Mass

Low Mass is a simple and prayerful celebration of the Holy Eucharist. Without music or ceremony, it offers a still moment of encounter with God in Word and Sacrament.

In this quieter form of the Mass, we are invited into a deeper silence — a space to listen, to reflect, and to be renewed by Christ’s presence. Here, without distraction, we can attend closely to the mystery unfolding before us: the offering of Christ on the Cross made present for us again at the altar.

The celebrant leads us through the prayers and readings, proclaiming the Word of God and consecrating the bread and wine so that they become the Body and Blood of Christ. Though the form is simple, the grace we receive is no less abundant.

At Low Mass, the focus is not on outward splendour, but on the quiet intimacy of faith — a personal meeting with the Lord who feeds and strengthens us for the life of discipleship.

Friday Votive Masses

Each Friday evening we gather to celebrate a Votive Mass — a special Eucharist offered for a particular intention or devotion. These Masses invite us to focus on key aspects of our faith, deepening our prayer and strengthening our life in Christ.

First Friday – The Sacred Heart of Jesus:
We honour the boundless love and mercy of Christ, praying that our hearts may be conformed to his.

Second Friday – Mass for Healing:
A gentle and prayerful liturgy including the laying on of hands and anointing for healing in body, mind, and spirit.

Third Friday – Our Lady of Walsingham:
We unite our prayers with those of Our Lady, offering this Mass for the mission and witness of her holy Shrine at Walsingham.

Fourth Friday – Requiem Mass:
We remember before God those who have died recently, and all whose anniversaries of death fall this month.

Fifth Friday – Vocations:
We pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and religious life, and for all discerning God’s call.

Each Votive Mass offers a moment of quiet reflection at the week’s end — an opportunity to draw closer to the Lord in prayer, thanksgiving, and hope.

Each week we gather online to pray the Holy Rosary, joining our voices and hearts in reflection on the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ through the eyes of his Blessed Mother.

The Rosary is a simple yet profound form of prayer, inviting us to meditate on the mysteries of faith — the joyful, luminous, sorrowful, and glorious events of our salvation. Parish Mass - St Matthew's Ashford

The Parish Mass

The Mass is the heart of our worship — the place where heaven and earth meet. Here we come together to receive God’s grace, to be nourished by his Word, and to share in communion with Christ and with one another.

In the Eucharist, Jesus himself is truly present and active. Through the mystery of the Mass, we are drawn to the foot of the Cross, where his self-giving love is made present for us anew. Every Mass is a celebration of that love — a living act of thanksgiving and renewal.

We do not come to Mass as spectators, but as participants. Each of us has a part to play, joining our prayers, songs, and hearts in offering ourselves to God. Some serve as Eucharistic Ministers, helping to distribute Holy Communion so that all may share in Christ’s gift. Others serve as Lectors, proclaiming the Scriptures and bringing God’s Word to life. Cantors and choir members lead us in song, lifting our worship in praise and thanksgiving.

The celebrant stands at the altar in the person of Christ, leading us in prayer, proclaiming God’s Word, and consecrating the bread and wine so that they become for us the Body and Blood of the Lord.

At the heart of it all is Christ himself, gathering us around his table and drawing us ever deeper into his life and love.
