The Family Mass

The Family Mass is a joyful and welcoming celebration of the Holy Eucharist, bringing together people of all ages to worship as one family in Christ. It is a sung Mass, rich in participation and prayer, though without hymns — allowing the beauty of the liturgy itself to lead us in praise.

Here, children and adults alike share in the rhythm of the Church’s worship, hearing God’s Word, offering prayers, and coming together around the altar to receive the Body and Blood of Christ. The familiar responses and simple chants help everyone to take part, creating a sense of unity and belonging.

The celebrant leads us in prayer and thanksgiving, proclaiming the Scriptures and consecrating the bread and wine so that we may be fed with Christ’s life. Every element of the Family Mass — the readings, the music, the stillness — draws us closer to God and to one another.

This Mass invites families to grow in faith together, learning the beauty of worship and discovering the quiet joy of meeting Christ in the Eucharist.

A VERY WARM WELCOME to the Parish Churches of St. Mary the Virgin Stanwell and St. Matthew Ashford, whether you come as a visitor to look at our lovely Churches, to pray where generations of people have prayed before you, or if you come as one looking for a church to make your spiritual home.

Our parishioners represent a wide variety of age groups, backgrounds, experiences and occupations. Given all our parish has to offer, we realise that a newcomer can still feel isolated amid new, unknown faces, ministries and opportunities. We hope to minimize such isolation and invite you to learn more about our parishes so that you and your family may experience our rich opportunities for worship, community and ministry.

St Mary’s and St Matthew’s are truly places where all are counted as part of our faith family. We seek to be an inclusive and welcoming Christian community, imposing no conditions on those who come through our doors other than a willingness to be open to the love of God revealed in Jesus Christ.
