7pm Vigil Service for Easter Eve Service

Occurring
for 1 hour, 30 mins
Venue
St John
Address
St John, Healey Riding Mill, NE44 6BJ, United Kingdom

The Easter Eve Vigil (Holy Saturday) in the UK is the primary, oldest service of Easter, held after sunset to celebrate Christ's resurrection. Common in Church of England, Catholic, and other denominations, it features the "Service of Light" (lighting a new fire/Paschal candle), scripture readings, music, and, in Healey, renewal of baptismal vows within the context of a Holy Communion.
The service is informal and starts outside the main door of St John's Healey Church where a fire is lit. We then proceed into the church for the remainder of the service, which lasts a bit over an hour.

St Mary's Slaley

St Mary's is a lovely, growing church at the heart of our village. You will always be welcome.

We meet for worship every Sunday at 11.15am.

Holy Communion is celebrated on the first and fifth Sunday of every month.

Messy Church (hugely popular!) is celebrated every quarter in the Commemoration Hall, Slaley.

St Mary’s has united Anglicans and Methodists in the village since Advent Sunday 2017. We feel that our union is both happy and creative under God.

Safeguarding

The parish of Slaley: St Mary the Virgin is committed to the safeguarding of children, young people and adults. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer(s), PSOs. The Diocese of Newcastle’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor (DSA) who advise our PSOs. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the Parish Safeguarding Officer, who is Paula Darrington. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority Children or Adults Services.

Paula Darrington may be contacted on 07787 574315 or [email protected]
Jill Thirlaway is our diocesan Safeguarding Caseworker: her email is [email protected]

If a child or adult is in immediate danger or requires immediate medical attention, call the emergency services on 999.
