A quiet said Service

The main act of worship for our community

Starting with a procession of palms around the outside of the church, this service begins our journey through Holy Week.

A service of holy communion as we remember Jesus' final meal with his friends. Foot-washing available (but optional). At the end of the service, the blessed sacrament will be carried to the altar of repose, and the sanctuary stripped. The watch will be kept in silence until 10pm - all are welcome to stay as long as they like, or leave in silence when they are ready.

Solemn worship and reflection as we recall the three hours Jesus hung on the cross.

2-3pm The Liturgy of Good Friday - including veneration of the cross and communion from the altar of repose.

After remembering the stories of salvation together, we light the first fire of Easter, light and bless the paschal candle, and carry the light into the church. We will then celebrate a joyful eucharist as we greet the risen Christ. Fizz and chocolates will be served after the service.

This is a joint service for St Peter's Cowgate and St Wilfrid's Newbiggin Hall, taking place at St Peter's (NE5 3LP).

We celebrate the resurrection of Jesus with hymns, readings, prayers and communion, renewal of baptismal vows and blessing of the Easter garden. Refreshments served after the service.
