St Ceolwulf was King of Northumbria from 729 to 737 AD, when he became a monk at Lindisfarne. He was the ‘most glorious king’ to whom the Venerable Bede dedicated his History of the English Church and People. During Viking raids in the 9th century, the Lindisfarne monks brought the bodies of both Cuthbert and Ceolwulf to Norham. Cuthbert’s body later continued its journey to Durham, but Ceolwulf remained buried somewhere in Norham. Norham Primary School Norham St Ceolwulf's CE Primary School was named after him in 2005.
