About Us
WelcomeSt James and St Christopher's church is a lively parish church in the Shiregreen area of Sheffield. We are a group of people from a range of backgrounds following Jesus together.
What to expect on Sundays
Our Sunday service starts at 10am. You will find a warm welcome, spirit-filled worship and engaging teaching from the Bible. We serve tea and coffee at the end of the service.
We also run groups for children and young people during our services on the first 3 Sundays of the month. On the 4th Sunday we have an all age service.
History
When the Shiregreen estate was being built in the 1930s, children across the Diocese of Sheffield raised money to buy land for a church to be built. This is why the church is dedicated to St Christopher. Just as children and young people were a vital part of the church's beginning, we believe that they are a precious part of our present and future. The church was consecrated on the 11th January 1941, Shiregreen having become an independent parish in 1938 (most of it being taken out of the parishes of Ecclesfield and Wincobank).Graft Team from St Thomas Philadelphia - 2025
In September 2025, a team of 27 people from St Thomas Philadelphia (Philly) came to join with the existing congregation at St James and St Christopher's. Rev Zak Venable, previously curate at Philly, is leading the church as Priest-in-Charge and Oversight Minister. This is a new season for our church and we are excited to see what God will do.
