Beeston Parish Church

St John's is the Church of England parish church which serves the people and town of Beeston, in Nottinghamshire. We think of ourselves as a community of people, not just a building, but you'll find our beautiful church in the centre of Beeston, on the green adjacent to the tram stop. It's been a place of prayer and worship for centuries, where people have marked the significant milestones of their family and community lives, and sought to meet God, and share in God's work.

Our worship, theology and spirituality (what we believe, and how we relate to God and one another) are broadly in the modern catholic style - but if that's new to you, there are plenty of opportunities to find out more about what that means. We believe in creating spaces where people can encounter something of the mystery and love of God, we encourage one another as we ask questions, and make connections between faith in Jesus and our everyday lives, and we try to be open to different ways of seeing.

Rich and diverse worship lies at the heart of our community, centred on the Eucharist, and our 10am Sunday service is our principal act of weekly worship. This is supplemented by other services on a Sunday and during the week which are smaller and more reflective in nature.

Whatever brings you to St John's we hope you find a warm welcome and space for encounter with God, with community and with yourself.

The Church of England, its archbishops, bishops, clergy and leaders are committed to safeguarding as an integral part of the life and ministry of the Church. At St John the Baptist, Beeston, we take our safeguarding responsibilities seriously. We are committed to working towards the Church of England National Safeguarding Standards. ORGANIST FOR ST JOHN THE BAPTIST, BEESTON

INTERESTED?

St John’s, Beeston is a large, socially diverse, Church of England parish in Nottinghamshire. Our main Sunday worship is the 10am Sung Eucharist with choir, with an average congregation of 110 people.

The Parochial Church Council seeks a person who is flexible and mission minded, with an appreciation for a wide range of musical styles, open to change and who shares the inclusive ethos of the parish. The parish is part of the Inclusive Church network. More information can be found here Inclusive Church (inclusive-church.org)

Main duties include -

· To accompany the 10am Sunday Eucharist (you would need to be available from 9:15am for pre-service choir practice)

· To play for additional services which include daily services in Holy Week, Ascension Day, Civic Services and for baptisms, some weddings and funerals, as well as occasional Choral Evensongs.

There is a Friday evening choir practice (currently mostly adults but some children also attend) and the expectation is that you would be available for some of these. Holidays would include six Sundays per year

The ability to lead choir practices would be an advantage but is not essential.

We encourage established or developing musicians. Role development is encouraged.

A job share would be considered.

Renumeration is negotiable.

The post is offered on the basis of a 3 month probationary period.

Interviews will take place in the Parish Church late March/early April.

We hope the successful candidate can start as soon as possible thereafter.

This appointment will follow the Church of England’s Safer Recruitment process which includes an enhanced DBS check and completion of all relevant safeguarding training. More information on Safer Recruiting can be found here Introduction | The Church of England
