The Julian Group has continued during lockdown with people using the meditations at home, and we had our first group in church on 28th July. We will continue to meet on the last Tuesday of the month at 6:30pm at home and in church – if you’d like to be placed on the list for receiving e-mails with the Julian meditation materials, just e-mail [email protected] The next Julian date is September 29th. The last Tuesday in August will be a Taizé service instead of a Julian Group.

We are now able to hold services again, and each week we have enjoyed hearing the bells being rung before the services – so many thanks to Shirley Barnett and her team of volunteer ringers. It all seems rather strange to be meeting in the Nave instead of the Chancel, to be socially distanced, not to sing, and now wearing face masks… and no coffee and chat afterwards! Not at all what we are used to; but St James has seen 900 years of history and this is a bit more to live through: if only the stones could speak! We continue to monitor and follow the guidance for our safety and, as we all know, it can quickly change one way or another. We all look forward to the day when we can worship more “normally” and hear the congregation singing. In the meantime, organ music is used in worship, and the Sunday service provides an opportunity to listen to organ music too.
