Heritage Open Day

Occurring
for 6 hours
Venue
St Thomas Huddersfield
Address
Manchester Road Huddersfield, HD1 3HU, United Kingdom

St Thomas's church was consecrated in 1859 and was designed by the prolific Victorian architect Sir George Gilbert Scott. It was built at the expense of woollen manufacturers Thomas John and Joseph Starkey on a site opposite their extensive mill complex (long since demolished) on Manchester road at Longroyd Bridge.
Stained glass windows by Clayton and Bell with one window by Kemp. War memorials by Sir Charles Nicholson inside and outside the church.
In 1990 the interior of the church was imaginatively re-ordered to create social spaces and a separate worship area. It is hoped that this will be upgraded in the near future.
There will be displays about the history and architecture of the church together with free leaflets along with vestments and liturgical items both traditional and contemporary. Tea and coffee will be available.

Safeguarding

Our parish of Huddersfield All Saints & St Thomas is committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults from harm. We follow the House of Bishops guidance and policies and have our own Parish Safeguarding Officer, David Osborne (PSO). Our Diocese of Leeds’s safeguarding pages contain vital links and information including contacts for the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor who advises our PSO. If you are concerned that a child or adult has been harmed or may be at risk of harm please contact the PSO or the Diocesan Safeguarding Advisor. If you have immediate concerns about the safety of someone, please contact the police and your local authority’s children or adult social care services.
