St John's Church, Upperthong, is located a short walk up the hill from the town of Holmfirth, in the Holme Valley. St John's shares worship with the churches of Holmfirth and Hepworth, with services alternating week by week in the different parishes.

St John's is part of the Upper Holme Valley Team of churches in the Diocese of Leeds. Currently, there is no vicar at the church, but the churchwarden can be contacted.
