Dear Residents and Friends of Lepton Village,
We appeal for your help please. The parish church of St John the Evangelist has stood on Green Balk Lane at the top of Rowley Lane since 1868. Since then many monuments have been placed both inside and outside the church in memory of individuals and events. One of the most important is the clock and four dials installed and dedicated in 1921 by the then residents of Lepton to remember those from the village who died in the Great War of 1914 – 1918. Their names are recorded on the granite tablet to the right of the main tower doors (to which were added the names of those who died in WW2) while another tablet to the left refers to the clock. The dial on the north face of the tower is particularly splendid as it is painted with gold leaf outlining. With such a long passage of time it is not surprising that the condition of the dial has deteriorated and while periodic maintenance has been done over the years sadly it is now in a poor visual state. We at St Johns feel the dial should be restored to its former glory to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice. We also feel many of the present residents of Lepton would want the same and how appropriate that we do this as another act of remembrance as the nation commemorates VE Day and VJ Day 80 years ago.
The restoration cost is £7,700 and we appeal to your generosity. A small contribution from each of us will ensure the dial once again looks out proudly across Lepton.
Please help us raise the funds needed. Every contribution, no matter the size, brings us one step closer to our objective.
You can make your donation in one of three ways listed below.
With heartfelt gratitude,
