Lessons and Carols began with Bishop Edward White Benson in 1880 in Truro, England, as a way to create a service for all the family. The service's modern, globally recognised format was established in 1918 by Eric Milner-White at King's College, Cambridge, to provide a spiritual and uplifting service to the community following the First World War. The service has since been adapted by many churches and is now a popular worldwide tradition.

A service for children and the young at heart, all are welcome. This service has become a family favourite in the parish and for many it's become a family tradition.

The History of a Christingle began in 1747 with Bishop Johannes de Watteville of the Moravian Church in Germany, who created a simple candle with a red ribbon to explain the happiness Jesus brings to children. The modern Christingle, featuring an orange, candle, and sweets on sticks, was popularised in the UK by John Pensom in 1968 during a fundraising event for The Children's Society. This modern version incorporates the original symbolism but uses additional elements to represent the world, God's love, and the fruits of the earth. All donations given in this service is given to The Children's Society.

As we come together for the Mass (Eucharist) we come to the presence of the Holy Father and with all Christians throughout the world. Gathering to give praise and worship for His Son who was born in a manger for all of us.

The service includes singing Christmas Carols, listening to the Word of God and receiving Holy Communion. All are very welcome to join us - communicants and none communicants. The main thing is that you come to celebrate the real meaning of Christmas. After all the word Christmas means The Christ Mass.
