Christ Church, Staincliffe

Welcome to the United Benefice of Christ Church Staincliffe and St John’s the Evangelist in Carlinghow. We are a vibrant and inclusive community of Christians committed to nurturing spiritual growth and fellowship in Batley, West Yorkshire. As part of the Diocese of Leeds, we are affiliated with The Society and operate under the episcopal oversight of the Bishop of Beverley. Our parish is further enriched by the service of a Priest from the Society of the Holy Cross, who provides dedicated pastoral care to our community. We proudly embrace the Catholic tradition within the Church of England, and our worship is characterized by a high church liturgy. We celebrate Mass daily, offering our congregation a rich and profound worship experience that includes elaborate ceremonial elements, beautifully crafted vestments, and the use of incense and bells, all of which enhance the sacred atmosphere. Our music program features traditional hymns and plainchant, fostering a deep sense of reverence and connection to our faith. Devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and all the Saints is also an integral part of our spiritual practice, reflecting our belief in the communion of saints and the intercessory power of those who have gone before us. We warmly invite everyone to participate in our services and events, regardless of their background or faith journey. Our doors are open to all, and we encourage newcomers to explore our community. For more information regarding our various services, including baptisms, weddings, funerals, or other significant life events, please do not hesitate to reach out to our Parish Priest, Fr. Jay Lawrence Hewitt SSC. He would be delighted to assist you and provide further details about our vibrant parish life.
