How lovely it was to welcome so many children and adults to our activity day on Good Friday. Lots of fun on the Easter Egg Hunt, decorating eggs, planting seeds, making cards and scratch art crosses. There was also a raffle ensuring that every child had an Easter Egg to take home. There was also time to relax and enjoy a cuppa and a chat, with a slice of cake for those who were tempted. Thanks to Charlotte for making it all happen, to all the helpers on the day, the bakers and those who served refreshments. Also thank you to Rachael at Ferrybridge Community Centre and to Claire from Housing for the Easter Eggs.
Thank you to everyone who helped out on the day in any way: to John, Ron and Geoff for the plants, Linda for making the bacon sandwiches and endless cups of tea and coffee, Anne for help in the kitchen, Michael and Mary for the tasty baking, Janice for the raffle, Ray for helping to make everyone feel welcome and his help with setting up and clearing away and Glenis and Ann for their stall. We also need to thank everyone who came along to support our day; we hope you enjoyed it. It certainly was lovely to see you all. We made a tremendous £702.79 for church funds. We were also given a generous donation of £50 towards the renovation of our stained class windows. We are very grateful.
We had our last Lent Lunch on Maundy Thursday, the group decided to have an afternoon tea. It was a lovely afternoon tea thank you to all the ladies who made it such an enjoyable afternoon. All members of the group had a nice time, everyone was given an Easter Egg, we had a raffle then played bingo. The total raised for Martin House Hospice was £440, what an excellent amount, not as much as previous years but we were happy to send this amount to Martin House. Love from Friends x We have had some comfortable chairs donated to the group. We would like to thank Enfinium, Ferrybridge for their generous gift.
In May 2021 we had our Quinquennial Inspection in church; this is done every 5 years. In the report it was stated that we needed to look at our windows in church as some of them needed repair. In January 2024 we had a survey carried out, the proposed scope of work was carry out a survey of all windows within the church, provide a report on the condition of the windows. The report the cost, timescale for all recommended works. The window which needed most work was the East window, this window needed taking away to the work shop of the people who were repairing the window. This window had been installed straight in the stonework in 1887. In the left-hand corner of this window you could see daylight, it was very dirty so needed cleaning, also the bars on the windows were rusty and needed re-leading.The work started in the summer of 2024 and we finally got the window back in the beginning of February. Once the East window was installed the rest of the windows in the church were cleaned, and those that needed repairing such as rusty bars were painted with special paint so they shouldn’t rust again. All the windows in church now look splendid, it has taken a while to get the restoration done but has been worth the wait. The work was done by Martin Johnson & Co (York) Ltd, Stained Glass and Window Conservation.
