About Us
St. Mary Magdalene’s church, ’a holy place where everyone is welcome’ has always belonged to the anglo-catholic tradition and embraces the ministry of women priests.Clergy wear liturgical dress and are assisted by Servers. Incense is used for festivals.
The congregation are welcoming, warm hearted and open to gradual change. We meet Sunday by Sunday to worship God and pray for his Spirit to enter our hearts.Our principal service is the Parish Mass held each Sunday at 9.15 am followed by refreshments. Weekday Mass is held on the first Thursday of the month at 9.15am and Morning Prayer is held on all other Thursdays at 9.15am. The church has a small galley kitchen, accessible toilet with baby changing facilities and a loop system. We have an extended and recently refurbished children’s area which is supervised during the Parish Mass by experienced church members using material appropriate to the church’s liturgy.
The main event each week is the Parish Mass at 9:15am on Sundays.
All ages and all sorts of people are welcome. We have a children's group that runs during the service, and refreshments are available every Sunday after mass.
For baptisms, weddings, marriage blessings, banns of marriage, and funerals, please contact the parish priest, who is also available for confirmation preparation, visits to the sick, home visits, visits to schools, and for other appointments.
Our Scouts, Cubs, Beavers, Girl Guides and Brownies meet in the Church Institute across the road where there is also the Outwood Pre-School, the Mini-Monsters Toddler Group, Outwood Wives'Group, Paula' Dance Classes, Slimming Club, Outwood Singers Group, our weekly Community Drop-In and other local groups. Rooms can be hired by other groups where we have availability - please contact the Church Institute Committee Secretary Tel. 01924 826220.
