Lunchtime Learning on Zoom, Mary Magdalene Wed 11 June, 12:30 – 13:30Speaker: Canon Doug Chaplin
Mary Magdalene’s greatest claim to fame in the gospels is that Jesus appointed her “apostle to the apostles” — that title is not just the result of modern feminist readings of scripture, it was one given her in the Middle Ages by none other than St Thomas Aquinas. In this session we shall root ourselves in the biblical traditions about Mary Magdalene but also take a look at some of the ways others have narrated her story, outside as well as inside the Church. Doug Chaplin will reflect on her role in the Gospels, and the ways people have co-opted her for their different agendas. Book your place and receive the Zoom link here: Lunchtime Learning - on three Marys of the Bible. Mary Magdalene
Cropthorne Walkabout and church fabric
Thank you to the organising team, volunteers and all who supported Cropthorne Walkabout on the May Bank Holiday weekend.
The whole event was a huge success and enjoyed by all ages. St Michael’s will receive a donation of £7,000 with an open door to apply for more BECAUSE……
…….St Michael’s faces large items of expenditure on its fabric, which includes repairs to the churchyard wall onto the highway, major roof repairs and a new heating system (electric to replace the now inoperable oil system). The PCC is obtaining estimates for the work involved to define priorities.
We are immensely grateful to everyone involved in the Walkabout for it is the major contributor to the fabric of the building.
Communication on the fabric works will be ongoing.
Sarah.

Eco Church - caring for God’s creationIt has been wonderful to hear comments about this small eco-section of our weekly E-News. After last week’s piece on saving water in the garden, eco friendly gardeners have shared that they use old washing-up water to water plants. The RHS says this is fine for periods of drought, but it is not advisable to water edible plants this way. Others have suggested the use of buried terracotta pots in the soil to act as small reservoirs from which the water gradually seeps into the soil and water surrounding plants.
